The History of UPWear Apparel

The founder of UPWEAR stands on an outdoor basketball court, holding a basketball and wearing a stylish UPWEAR hoodie and joggers featuring bold red and black flame-like designs from his own brand collection.

Introducing John Taylor

The name behind the Name

There are many clothing companies with similar Upwear names. But our naming was the organic inspiration of John E Taylor. UPWear is Urban Professional Wear (or Apparel). He wanted to offer something that would stand out- for all the right reasons.

Known for his “suit and tie” persona, it may seem odd to some to launch a hoodie/t-shirt company. He is exactly the person. With a solid history in professional appearance, promoting more traditionally casual clothes in a new light is a worthy challenge. We don’t need to recap the history. Let’s just say we are on a mission to “reclaim the hoodie”

Bringing the vision to life was the next step. Introduce, Tiffany, that’s me. A tech geek with a split personality for all things fashion, I embraced the challenge to create a clothing brand in a time when options seem limitless. The secret? The man behind the brand.

His love for fashion is nothing new. It’s actually ironic that he and I are in love with an “elevation of casual” clothing concept . Suited since birth, I don’t think I have more than a handful of memories of John out of a suit, until now.

When he said he wanted to start a clothing line, my first thought wasn’t sweats and t-shirts. It is my last. At first mention, I was on board. With the first sample run, I was sold. I avoided sales most of my life simply because I could never sale something I wouldn’t use. Well, I’m selling UPWear Apparel. First, to myself. I love my Level UP hoodie so much, I know my other brands are feeling “upwear envy”.

This isn’t our first venture. I have been a Muse for decades, long before the current trend began. John has had amazing ideas over the years I have had the pleasure to assist in bringing to life. Having successfully launched one of the first custom graphic t-shirt collections in the early 2000’s, it was interesting to work with on-demand designs.

This next phase in Fashion for Life will introduce the world to the possibility of elevating the common, reclaiming the defamed, and making a lasting change to the Fashion.
